OUR STORY

Thorson Ranch history

Welcome to the Thorson Ranch!

The Thorson ranch was founded in 1948 by Dean Thorson from Harlowton Montana. After getting out of the war in 1946 he had leased the property from Thomas Adams for two years before buying the land and Herford cattle with the property. Dean and his wife Jean had one daughter, Barbara Jean, whom married Ray Russell and had three children. Ray and Barb with help of their youngest son Raymond ran the ranch after Dean passed away in 1990 until 2017.

Today, Raymond with the great help from his girlfriend Cari and two employees continue the tradition of running cattle as the 3rd generation. The ranch has grown and developed over the decades and along with running 500 angus cattle on 10,800 acres, now offers D.I.Y. elk hunting, fly fishing, an our newest venture, precision long range shooting.
